guatemala
our biggest venture coming is guatemala. brad and i our leaving in just a week (sept3) and spending the next 3 months working in alta verapaz, guatemala with a mission called the Hope of the Pokomchi. it is a small mission that works with the Mayan Pokomchi people. here is a page that outlines what the mission is about better than i can (it's written by the missionaries, Bill and Linda).
as for us - we will be doing a smattering of things but for the record...jenn will help lead a women's Bible study, help with children's programs, do some admin organizational tasks and brad will help with some infrastructure construction projects, possibly teach some english classes and give driving standard lessons to some of the guatemalan staff.
we were just e-mailed the link to a website, guatemala 2006, which was set up by a church team that just went down for a week earlier this month. Their focus was a work project in one of the villages. Though this is a record of their experience down there -it has given us a glimpse into where we will be and the people we'll be working alongside.
we aer looking forward to the traveling, working with the people, learning a whole lot, and seeing how the Lord uses us and teaches us.
Following our work with the mission, we will be traveling on our our own for the last 3 weeks and then fly to Vancouver on Christmas day. we hope to keep our blog updated with info of our experiences if we can.
